Submission window: By September 30, 2026 (11:59 PM U.S. Central). Outside this window, watch for other calls (e.g., our nonfiction anthology Mystic Memoirs).
What we seek
Unpublished short fiction short stories that captivate the reader and make them seek out your larger works.
Originality & eligibility
- Submissions must be original and previously unpublished. Anything appearing online (blogs, newsletters, social media, Medium, etc.) counts as previously published.
- No AI-generated writing. Grammar tools are fine; the story and language must be your own.
Length & number of submissions
- 3,000–6,000 words.
- One submission at a time. You may submit a new piece after you receive a response.
- Simultaneous submissions are allowed; notify us immediately if accepted elsewhere.
Formatting & file
- .doc or .docx only.
- 14-pt, Times New Roman, single-spaced, 1-inch margins.
- Indent first line of paragraphs; include page numbers.
- Title required.
- File name: LastName_Title_TMP2Submission.docx (e.g., Woodliff_VengefulMessenger_TMP2Submission.docx).

- Legal name + pen name (if any)
- Mailing address + phone
- Approximate word count
- 50–100 word bio (third person)
- Content warnings if appropriate
Legal & permissions (nonfiction)
- Avoid libel and invasion of privacy. Disguise identifying details or secure written permission when portraying living, identifiable people.
- If composites or timeline compressions are used, add a brief author’s note.
- We may request verification.
Payment & rights
- $25 USD upon publication via PayPal (or check for U.S. authors).
- We buy First Serial Rights (world English) for print, ebook, and website plus non-exclusive right to use brief excerpts for promotion.
- Rights revert to the author upon publication; we request 90-day exclusivity from publication date and the right to keep the piece in our archives and in the published anthology edition(s).
Response time
- We aim to reply within 12 weeks of the window’s close. Please wait 12 weeks from July 31 before inquiring.
